For the past year, we’ve been looking forward to a new iPad mini refresh, and it’s sounding like its just around the corner. A new leak last week from Aaron Perris unveiled that the product should feature an A20 Pro chip and thinner bezels, and we already know it’ll feature OLED and a water resistant design.
While those upgrades are excellent, I have one major thing I want from the next iPad mini, and it has to do with software.
After seeing the iPhone Duo, I’m amazed at how well Apple mastered the multitasking on the device. Multitasking on iPad has always felt like a mess to me, and iPhone Duo just feels elegant.
On such a small screen, having proper windowing on the iPad mini never felt appropriate. Users likely aren’t overlapping many windows on iPad mini. That’s why I want Apple to steal one nifty feature from the iPhone Duo: split screen with picture in picture.
I mean really, this is such an excellent experience. Currently, there’s no way on iPad mini to make a picture in picture window take up the entire width of the device in portrait, and even if there were, you’d either have to have it block some of your app, or manually align the sizing using windowing.
Bringing video and app split view to the iPad mini‘s display seems like a no brainer to me, especially given the fact that the iPhone Duo and iPad mini share similar aspect ratios. At least personally, I’d use an iPad mini in portrait a lot more if this feature existed.

Despite a new version reportedly being around a corner, I still personally believe AirPods Pro 2 are a great deal. They're already equipped with USB-C, and continually gain new software features. With them consistently going on sale, it's a great purchase to make. Features like Adaptive Audio are incredible.
