We’ve had iOS 27 in our hands for about two months now. Of course, it’s a beta – and the public release won’t be hitting for another 4-6 weeks. That said, despite the fact that I’ve been running a beta on my phone for the past two months, I can’t say I’ve really thought much about it. It just… works.
Of course, I still rush to the software update screen every two weeks (give or take) to install the latest beta. That’s the only part of the beta experience that’s stayed consistent with the 27 cycle.
Other than that, I can’t say any of the normal things that one would about a beta. Battery drain has been basically nonexistent, my phone isn’t overheating, I’m not experiencing tons of weird lag, and my phone isn’t randomly crashing.
Running iOS 27 comes with all of the benefits of new software, like Siri AI, AirPods EQ, new Wallet passes in Safari, better Photos AI editing features, and more – without any of the drawbacks that usually come with running cutting-edge beta software. It’s honestly a bit of a marvelous feat.
It probably helps that iOS 26 wasn’t that stable in the first place. Particularly iOS 26.5, which for some reason (at least personally) caused my phone to start having resprings (soft crashes where your screen will go black and a loading indicator shows) quite frequently.
This is all anecdotal of course, but you could ask almost anyone and hear some story of how iOS 26 wasn’t that great for them.
All that said, iOS 27 delivers in terms of its speed boosts, bug fixes, stability, and quality of life improvements. You might not feel it at first because of the heavy indexing in the background for Siri AI – though Apple recently released iOS 26.6, which will begin indexing for Siri AI in the background so you don’t have to when you update to iOS 27. After that, it’ll be smooth sailing.
I’m incredibly excited for the general public to start using iOS 27 when it releases next month. It’s a little bit hard to believe, but it does really feel like Apple fixed all of the major annoyances with iOS. It’s not perfect of course, software never will be – but it’s certainly the best my iPhone has ever felt in recent memory.
iOS 27 will support all iPhone models that supported iOS 26, with iPhone 11 and up all getting the update.
