Walmart’s cheapest Google TV stick isn’t dead yet, but there’s a shift coming

Walmart is preparing a big shake-up for its Google TV streaming hardware lineup, all while existing models are hard to find in stock.

Following a recent price hike, Walmart’s still-very-affordable FHD Google TV streaming stick vanished from the retailer’s website for a few days last week. It’s since returned, we’ve confirmed, with the streamer still available for purchase for $29.98.

But the brief absence wasn’t a huge shock. Walmart first introduced that model in 2023 and it’s the only one that hasn’t gotten a refresh in recent months. It’s wildly overdue for a replacement.

AFTVNews suggests that might come as a part of a bigger shift in Walmart’s Google TV lineup. Where all existing and previous generation models are produced by SDMC, it seems the company is shifting over to Skyworth. This is suggested by an FCC listing that surfaced back in May. The updated model is identical, just with a new manufacturer behind the device.

It’s hard to say whether or not the “new” version is the one being sold now that the listing has returned, but anything’s possible. Presumably, Walmart will be shifting production of other devices over to Skyworth too.
