Sony may re-release its 2020 over-ear headphones for around $250, leak reveals

A new leak has spilled the beans on an interesting move from Sony, as the company is preparing to re-launch its 2020 over-ear headphones, the WH-1000XM4.

Dealabs obtained details on the Sony WH-1000XM4C, a new variant of the headphones Sony first released back in 2020. The refresh was first leaked by Roland Quandt of WinFuture earlier this week, but this new report reveals more details.

The updated headphones would apparently feature largely unchanged hardware, though slightly shorter battery life at 34 hours compared to the 38 hours the original pair were rated for. Colors would include “Platinum Silver,” Black, and Lavender – that last one didn’t appear in the original lineup.

Why re-release a pair of headphones from six years ago?

It seems that price is the most important factor. Where Sony’s current flagship, WH-1000XM6, start at around $450, this new release would cost just €249.99 / £219.99. Using European pricing as a point of comparison, that suggests these could sell for around $250 in the US market.

The report goes on to mention that Sony will release the refreshed headphones on September 7, just a few weeks from now.
