AT&T has texted customers on iPhone 18 Pro Max, telling them to upgrade to iOS 27.0.1 to fix cellular issues. Users are saying this update doesn't address their problems.
The key problem, believed to affect only a small number of users, is that the iPhone 18 Pro Max on AT&T may not make or receive calls, nor always send and receive text messages. AT&T has now texted customers telling them to update iOS specifically to fix these issues.
As first spotted by MacRumors, the text message does at least suggest that this update will fix the problem, but AT&T is possibly being a bit hopeful. Apple has released iOS 27.0.1 but has not confirmed that it addresses the call problem.
Apple has not yet publicly acknowledged the issue at all, though. So it's possible that AT&T knows more than Apple has said about its update, but so far at least some users have been disappointed.
"Word on the street was that the iOS 27.0.1 would be addressing this issue," AppleInsider reader Rod Santiano emailed to say, "but alas it… apparently only addresses the Face ID and unresponsive touchscreen issues that have been happening."
"We're still using our iPhone 18s as glorified iPods," he continued.
Santiano says that Apple tested his iPhone 18 Pro Max and found nothing wrong with it, replaced the phone anyway. So far, the replacement iPhone 18 Pro Max is working, too.
The update does appear to be the one Apple was referring to when it said a fix was coming for the separate Face ID rebooting bug.
If you are affected by the iPhone 18 Pro Max call problem, or any other issue on AT&T, be certain to contact support for both the carrier and Apple. AT&T has a device help center, and Apple has a general support page.
