MacBook Ultra is coming, here’s the latest on release timing

MacBook Ultra is the rumored name for Apple’s exciting MacBook Pro overhaul with OLED, a touchscreen, Dynamic Island, and more. Here’s the latest on when to expect MacBook Ultra’s release.

Apple has been working on a total redesign for the MacBook Pro for a while now. Rumors now indicate it could be called MacBook Ultra.

Whatever the name ends up being, the latest reporting indicates Apple is targeting a launch this fall—though it could slip into early 2027.

The most notable new model on the road map is a high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook with a fresh design and a touch screen that uses OLED display technology — both firsts for the Mac. […]

That new MacBook line — dubbed K114 and K116 within Apple — remains on track for release between the end of this year and early next year. Internally, Apple is currently testing the laptops with macOS 27.1, which is scheduled for release to consumers at the end of October.

Apple often launches new Mac models in late October, and it sounds like that’s the targeted release window for MacBook Ultra.

What might cause it to slip into next year? The current memory crisis seems an obvious candidate.

We’ve seen extended shipping delays on products like Mac mini, Mac Studio, and recently even the MacBook Air due to memory shortages. If Apple isn’t able to secure the components it needs to launch a major new MacBook, it will likely push the release into early 2027.

Gurman’s report that macOS 27.1 is being used on MacBook Ultra internally is a good sign that a fall launch is still the hope.

But as we’ve seen plenty in the past year, Apple’s plans might change for a variety of reasons that are outside its control.
