Google says this Android Auto update should fix random disconnects & freezes

Some issues with random Android Auto disconnects and freezes in recent weeks should be fixed with the latest updates, Google says.

Over the past month or two there’s been a spike in user reports of Android Auto randomly freezing or disconnecting, often every few minutes. There’s no rhyme or reason to these reports, with the issue cropping up around a ton of different Android phones and vehicle combinations. It’s not been universally affecting users, but has shown up for quite a lot of folks.

For a platform used for navigation behind the wheel, that’s incredibly frustrating, so those affected have been eagerly awaiting a fix.

In a comment from a Community Specialist, Google says that Android Auto 17.4 and newer updates should fix these issues.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to report that the team has implemented a fix. Please update your Android Auto app to the latest version (17.4 or above), which should solve the problem.

Android Auto 17.4 is widely available via the Play Store, with Android Auto 17.5 available in the beta track and starting to show up for stable users too.
