If you rely a lot on Google Meet for your daily minimum dose of human contact, its “Take notes for me” feature is a godsend. As the name suggests, it automatically takes written notes for you, letting you stay more present in virtual meetings. Initially introduced for Workspace accounts, the feature was recently made available to regular Google users and has even expanded to real-life meetings and conversations. Now, Google is adding another layer to the feature that makes it even more useful.
Google recently announced “Quick notes” as an extension to Take notes for me in Meet. This new feature offers a high-level summary of the meeting’s key highlights based on the discussion and the notes jotted down by the video calling app.
Irrespective of how long your meeting was, Quick note gives you a one-pager lowdown, organizing actionables in the form of bullet points and checklists. Google says the goal is to provide concise information as fast as possible.
Quick notes will populate the main tab on the automatically generated Google Doc after your meeting. For anyone who wants to delve deeper, the actual notes will be accessible on a separate tab, which preserves all the deeper context from the conversation. A similar rich-text overview will also be delivered to users’ emails directly.
Since Quick Notes is part of Take notes for me, there’s no separate toggle to turn it on. Like the vanilla version, the shorter summaries are also available to all Workspace users as well as Gmail users with a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription. Google is also adding an option for users to keep the notes feature disabled for certain calls. Starting September 29, it will give admins and users the option to enable notes only when there are three or more participants.
