With votes now being counted in the US midterm elections, the Apple News app offers a convenient way to follow the results in real time. Here’s how it works.
Today is Election Day in the United States, with all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats up for election.
And with polls now closing and results starting to come in, Apple News is once again offering an easy way to keep track of the vote count, as it has done in recent elections.
As a refresher, Live Activities provide real-time updates from apps directly on your iPhone’s Lock Screen and, on supported models, in the Dynamic Island. This means you can keep track of information without having to constantly open an app.
U.S. users can open the Apple News app and then tap on the “Follow the 2026 midterms live” banner at the top of the screen.
Once enabled, the Live Activity will display election results as they become available, with updates throughout the vote count. This makes it possible to follow the election throughout the evening, even while using other apps on your iPhone.
For users who’d rather follow the results on their computers, Live Activities from your iPhone can also appear in your Mac’s menu bar through iPhone Mirroring, a feature introduced in macOS Tahoe 26.
You can also open Apple News for additional coverage and analysis of the 2026 midterm elections.
