In June, a peculiar bug affected Google Pixel phones, causing incoming calls to not appear on the screen. At the time, we saw reports of the same issue from owners of a wide range of Pixel phones, including flagships from the last couple of years, along with some older models. It’s been several months since then, but this bug hasn’t gone away and is now reportedly affecting users of Google’s latest Pixel flagship.
A Pixel 11 Pro XL owner shared their ordeal on Reddit, explaining that incoming calls won’t ring and that it happens “about 4 out of every 10 calls.” Instead, they reportedly receive a missed call notification by text.
It’s easy to see how frustrating this can be, especially if you’re expecting important calls throughout the day. The user appears to be on the German cellular network Congstar and says they’ve already reset the network settings and replaced the SIM card, in addition to a factory reset, but to no avail.
The Pixel 11 Pro XL owner also says they disabled Do Not Disturb and removed features like the Pixel’s Call Screen and the spam filter, but those measures haven’t helped either. Google is aware of the issue and has responded to the user’s complaint, but hasn’t offered a timeline for the fix.
A look at the Google issue tracker post from June reveals a couple of new entries from other affected users, including one from a Pixel 11 Pro user early last month. This suggests the problem never left Pixel phones and may have since spread to newer Pixel hardware.
These aren’t the only instances of Pixel 11 Pro users reporting missing incoming calls. We’re seeing another complaint from late August, where Google appears to have offered a solution. However, it clearly did not work, as the same person returned last month with a similar complaint, with a few others concurring in the comments.
We have written to Google for an update on this long-standing bug, and will update the story when we hear back. In the meantime, we recommend these workarounds for Pixel users who are in the same boat.
