After a limited alpha testing phase, Aviate, the flight tracking application that aims to be a full rebuttal to iPhone’s Flighty tracker, is now officially available on Android.
After a short pre-registration period and the aforementioned limited alpha, Aviate can be grabbed directly from the Google Play Store per the development team’s official blog post announcing the launch.
While there have been a few options on Android for the past couple of years, there has been a lack of apps that lean into what makes Android a great platform. Instead, they’ve tried to replicate the experience of the iOS-only Flighty.
Aviate appears to be one of the few that leans more into the visual aesthetic of Material 3 Expressive, with color, clean layouts, and Google-like UI elements all present. Our own Ben Schoon has been testing the application for a little while already and has had positive early impressions. It’s a great deep dive into what makes Aviate a potentially game-changing app for us Android nerds.
It is completely free; however, for detailed tracking and additional data points, there is a drop-in, drop-out subscription model that feels fairer than other similar offerings. The subscription starts at $1.99 for a week, $2.49 for 2 weeks, $2.99 for 3 weeks, $39.99 for a year, or $199.99 for a lifetime pass. Eligible early adopters receive 20% off Lifetime Pro through August 31, 2026, with an offer visible in the app.
This pricing tier seems like a great way for infrequent travelers to have access to great metrics without committing to extensive subscriptions or high one-time fees. Basic flight tracking is available on the free tier for those who want to try it without payment. You can download Aviate for Android from the Play Store here.
