As soon as next year, Apple will be debuting its first pair of AI-powered smart glasses. They’ll integrate Visual Intelligence and bring Siri to the real world. Here’s what we’re expecting.
First and foremost, these glasses are AI glasses, not AR glasses. That means they’ll primarily be voice and camera-based, as they won’t have any displays.
The cameras will allow Siri to look at your real world environment and answer questions, provide context, and translate signage. Another feature that we’ll likely see on these glasses is the ability for you to ask Siri to save an image of something and remind you later, as we first saw in the macOS 26.7 leak.
They’ll also offer speakers for music and audio playback, so you can think of them as open-ear headphones.
On the other hand, though – they might not allow for the glasses to take photos and videos normally, per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses have become a massive privacy concern lately, and Apple may want to avoid that.
Unlike Meta, Apple isn’t partnering with an existing eyewear-maker to design these glasses. According to Bloomberg, the company is instead designing them in house, with a number of different styles in the works:
They’re supposedly going to be made of acetate, a more durable and higher-end alternative to plastic. Apple will also offer them in a few finishes, including black, ocean blue, and light brown.
In a future iteration of the product, Apple is reportedly considering positioning the product as a health device. This could mean they’ll integrate heart-rate monitors (similar to AirPods Pro 3), and it could mean there’ll be additional software features (like Workout Buddy from Apple Watch) to make it more helpful.
Beyond that, it’s unclear how Apple will make these useful for health – just don’t expect it in the first iteration.
Recent reporting suggests that Apple will unveil these glasses at WWDC 2027 to allow developers to prepare for them. Then, they’ll ship later that year. In all likelihood that’ll mean a September debut, alongside the 20th anniversary all-glass iPhone. You can learn more about that here.
