Apple lists unreleased iPad mini accessory ahead of rumored launch

While Apple is rumored to be gearing up to introduce an OLED iPad mini later this month, an oversight on the company’s French site might have just confirmed the product’s existence. Here are the details.

As spotted by MacRumors, Apple’s French regulatory website currently lists a Smart Folio for iPad mini with the model number A3632, which doesn’t correspond to any existing products.

The regulatory document is dated September 8, 2026, although it’s unclear when Apple actually added the listing to its website.

Compared with the Smart Folio for iPad mini (6th generation), whose regulatory document is dated December 22, 2022, the unreleased accessory has some notable differences.

According to Apple’s documentation, the new Smart Folio contains at least 3% recycled materials, compared with a minimum of 9% in the current model. It also contains at least 6,610 milligrams of rare earth elements, compared with 3,947 milligrams in the previous version, which could indicate changes to the magnets used to attach the cover to the iPad.

While these figures don’t reveal anything specific about the accessory’s design, the fact that Apple has assigned it a new model number suggests that changes may be coming.

For context, the sixth- and seventh-generation iPad mini models are compatible with the same Smart Folio, so a new accessory could indicate that the upcoming model will feature physical changes that affect case compatibility.

The next-gen iPad mini is rumored to feature an OLED display, Apple’s A20 Pro chip, thinner bezels, a relocated front-facing camera, and a redesigned speaker system. Bloomberg has also reported that Apple is working on a more water-resistant design, while recent rumors suggest the device could cost considerably more than its predecessor.

There are currently conflicting reports on whether the new iPad mini will retain a 60Hz refresh rate or gain support for 120Hz ProMotion.

While previous reports had left the possibility of ProMotion open, leaker yeux1122 recently reiterated that the device will be limited to a 60Hz OLED display.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has indeed tested both options, but he hasn’t been able to confirm which one the company ultimately chose.
