Mint Mobile is updating its family plans. The T-Mobile-owned MVNO has offered family plans for some time, but until recently, there wasn’t a straightforward discount offered for opting to sign up with a group. Now, though, family plans can save subscribers as much as $40 per month.
In the previous iteration of Mint’s family plan offerings, the only financial incentive to sign up with a group was that family plans offered the opportunity to get the per-line prices Mint offers individuals paying annually when paying in three-month increments instead. In the new family plans, though, the first line is billed at $30 per month and additional lines are $20 per month each.
You can sign up for a group plan with up to five total participants. Given the discount on offer applies to each additional line, you can save more with larger plans. Billed in three-month increments, a two-person plan costs $50 per month. The largest five-member group plans, meanwhile, cost a total of $110 each month, which shakes out to $22 per line for unlimited data.
Again, you do need to pay quarterly for these plans, so a five-member group will have to pay $330 at a time every three months. Compared to five individuals paying for their own unlimited plans, though, a five-member group plan will save a total of $480 per year. So if you know four other people who want cheap wireless service, the extra hoops could be worth it.
Mint’s retooled family plans are available now for between $50 and $110 per month, paid quarterly.
