Giant iPhone Duo installations spotted at Apple Fifth Avenue ahead of Friday launch

While the iPhone Duo doesn’t launch until Friday, preparations are already underway at Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York for the big day. Here are the details.

As spotted by @LChenlz on X, Apple has begun setting up several large, rectangular structures around the store’s iconic glass cube entrance.

The installations are still concealed beneath black cloth and white protective wrapping, but their shapes strongly suggest they could be giant iPhone Duo models.

In recent years, Apple has celebrated new iPhone launches with special displays and decorations at its flagship stores.

In 2024, the company illuminated Fifth Avenue’s glass cube in Apple Intelligence colors for the iPhone 16 launch, while last year it installed giant “Pro” and “Air” displays in several locations.

More recently, Apple decorated the Fifth Avenue cube in burgundy, silver, and blue to celebrate the iPhone 18 Pro launch last month.

Interestingly, there doesn’t appear to be a line outside Apple Fifth Avenue just yet, although customers have reportedly already started lining up at other stores.

As 9to5Mac covered earlier today, Apple has confirmed that its US retail stores will have a limited number of iPhone Duo units available for walk-in customers on Friday, while stores in several other markets, including mainland China, Japan, and France, will only offer in-store pickup for orders placed online.

While Friday’s launch is still a couple of days away, check out 9to5Mac’s in-depth iPhone Duo review, which went live earlier today.

Update: Here’s another look at the displays being set up:
