WhatsApp expands the Liquid Glass design to its video player

WhatsApp’s rollout of Liquid Glass across its interface continues, with the app now bringing the new look to its video player. Here are the details.

Even still, the redesign hasn’t reached everyone, as many 9to5Mac readers continue to report seeing the old interface on their devices.

That said, Meta has continued to expand the redesign across WhatsApp in the months since. Liquid Glass began making its way to the iPad app in June, followed by the Mac app in July, while WhatsApp has also continued updating more individual parts of the iPhone interface.

This week, as spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp started rolling out its Liquid Glass redesign for the video player, after initially revealing that the update was in development back in August.

With the latest update, WhatsApp is adopting the progress bar with the same translucent, glass-like appearance available in other sections of the app. The progress bar appears as a floating element at the top of the screen with a translucent background and rounded corners. In light mode, the background is white with a glass-like layout. In dark mode, the background turns dark. Note that WhatsApp is also refreshing the control bar at the bottom of the screen. This makes the interface more immersive and consistent with the Liquid Glass design language introduced since iOS 26.

The site adds that, for users with access to the new look, the video player was one of the few remaining parts of WhatsApp that had yet to adopt the Liquid Glass design.

As is often the case with WhatsApp feature rollouts, and particularly with the Liquid Glass rollout, the updated video player may not be available to all users just yet.
