Roku raises prices on streaming hardware by up to $50

As with everything else, Roku is now raising prices on its streaming devices by up to $50 per device, a major increase.

TheDesk noted Roku hardware price hikes this week, including the Roku Ultra which has raised in price from $100 to now $150, while Roku Streaming Stick is jumping from $30 to $40. Roku directly confirmed that these price increases are due to inflated memory costs, aka RAMageddon.

These price hikes haven’t hit all retailers yet, but Roku’s own store currently has many devices “on sale” for their previous retail prices, while also putting per-transaction limits in place.

Roku isn’t alone here. Apple drastically raised the price of an Apple TV box, and even Walmart has been forced to up the prices on its super-cheap Google TV streaming devices.

This all comes shortly after it was announced that Roku would be acquired by Fox.
