Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate to the public after several months of beta testing. The update is headlined by Siri AI, but there are also Apple Intelligence enhancements to many of Apple’s own Mac apps. Here are a few of my favorites.
One of the best things about Apple’s strategy with Apple Intelligence is how it sprinkles AI-powered features throughout system apps across all of its platforms. The Mac is a great example of this, and macOS 27 takes things up a notch.
In the Photos app, there are multiple new editing tools powered by Apple Intelligence. Spatial Reframing lets you change the perspective of an image after it’s been taken, while Extend lets you expand an image across its original edges. There’s also a more powerful version of Clean Up for removing objects and people from an image after the fact.
In Safari, Apple has added several new intelligence features. You can now automatically group your tabs by topics. Using the new Notify Me feature in Safari, you can get push notifications when changes are made to a website. This is great for tracking price changes or restocks of sold-out products.
Describe an Extension might be my favorite feature in macOS 27. It lets you create a custom extension for Safari just by using a natural language prompt.
Shortcuts can be a powerful way to create automations on your Mac. In macOS 27, Apple has made the process of creating shortcuts much easier. You can now use natural language to describe the shortcut you want, and Shortcuts will automatically create it.
You can even iterate on that shortcut using natural language. You can also, of course, still manually create a shortcut.
Apple has even added new Apple Intelligence features to Finder on the Mac. When naming a fold or file, you can now get suggestions powered by Apple Intelligence. So based on the content of the document or file, macOS 27 will suggest a name.
macOS 27 is available to Mac users everywhere. The update is supported on all Apple Silicon-powered Macs.
