Indie App Spotlight: ‘CloudGear’ brings all cloud gaming platforms into one tvOS app

Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you’re a developer and would like your app featured, get in contact.

On the Apple TV, gaming is a little bit of an afterthought for developers. Compared to iPhone, iPad, and even Mac – there aren’t a ton of options. Luckily, CloudGear exists as an all-in-one solution for bringing every major cloud gaming platform into one interface. It’s also available for iPhone and iPad.

CloudGear supports every major cloud gaming platform: GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud Streaming, Amazon Luna, and Boosteroid. It streams in up to 5K resolution at up to 120FPS, and also supports HDR, 10-bit color, and Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound.

Beyond those details, CloudGear also offers a few nice-to-have features. It supports controller vibration – and if your controller doesn’t have vibration, it’ll use your iPhone’s Taptic Engine. There’s also a feature to hand games off to your Apple TV from the iPhone or iPad app, in case you don’t want to do all the searching on your TV.

On iPhone and iPad, CloudGear offers home screen widgets – allowing you to bookmark games and quickly launch into them without interacting with anything else.

Lastly, CloudGear supports AR glasses plugged into your iPhone – like the XREAL glasses, allowing you to play games on a massive display right in front of your face.

CloudGear is available for free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad running iOS 17.6 and later, as well as Apple TV models running tvOS 18.6 and later. For the full feature set, you can subscribe for $1.99/month, $14.99/year, or $39.99 for a lifetime purchase. A 7-day free trial is available for subscriptions, and you can learn more about the app on the website.

Michael is 9to5Mac’s Weekend Editor, keeping up with all of the latest Apple news on Saturday and Sunday. He got started in the world of Apple news during the pandemic, and it became a growing hobby. He’s also an indie iOS developer in his free time, and has published numerous apps over the years.

Featuring two built in cables, a built in display, multiple ports, a 25,000mAh capacity, and up to 100W of output – this is one of the best battery banks for recharging your entire Apple ecosystem on the go.

Despite a new version reportedly being around a corner, I still personally believe AirPods Pro 2 are a great deal. They're already equipped with USB-C, and continually gain new software features. With them consistently going on sale, it's a great purchase to make. Features like Adaptive Audio are incredible.
